My new habit. Mike just switched his work hours from 5-2, to 9-really late. Things have been crazy as we have tried to adjust to this. It makes a long, super long day with the kids for me, hence no time to blog. But there have been a few fun things that have happened since the last post.
First T's birthday, we had a great dinner with my parents and T was enthralled with my Dad and his hat. It was really cute, Truman watched my Dad the whole time we ate, he never took his eyes off of him. And when my parents were getting ready to leave, my Dad left without his hat. T cuddled that hat with his bottle and wanted to take the hat to bed with him. We didn't have a part for Truman this year, but our small gathering was fun. We got cupcakes from Hello Cupcake, and T wasn't really too excited about his. And Mike, ugh, he thew it away before I could finish it. I'm still slightly irritated about that. Truman got special wooden animal blocks from my Mom and I, and they have proven a great toy that T and Milly can play with together. Well, Mil builds stuff and T knocks it down.
Truman also recently had his 12 month check up at the Doctor. He weighs 23 pounds and is in the 56% percentile for his weight and 63rd for his height. Our Doc was really impressed with T's walking skills and he also stressed the importance of getting T to sleep through the night, recently he's been getting up one to two times. Sigh. I know with Mil we did the cry-it-out thing when she was about nine months, and of course it worked perfectly. But with Truman, I couldn't bring myself to do it. I just kept thinking of him in the hospital attached to all those wires when he had RSV. I thought about the many ER visits we have had to make this year. I thought about T getting breathing treatments because his wheeze was so bad. And really, I don't mind getting up with him in the night. Our Doctor laughed at my resistance, and told me that T really needed to sleep through the night. You know, I really like and trust our Doctor, he was so great with T and the RSV, plus he comes highly recommended from my super friend Lisa. So I told him I'd try it out. And actually T barely cried this weekend, hardly fussed, and has slept all night the past two nights. He is such a great baby, and maybe I was jumping the gun getting up with him the past few months.
Milly went back to preschool last week. She was so excited and we decided to try the three day program with her, she currently only goes two days. We dedicated a wall in our upstairs hallway to her art from school (I'll have to take a pic later), she is such a great artist and loves to do creative things. I'm gonna have to get a pic of the painting she made my Mom of Wall-E. But she's been such a help with T. We had a small bout with her whining and tattling, but my Mom gave me these great books she had from when I was little, they discuss and break down disobeying, whining, tattling and being selfish. Anyway, after reading the books to Mil, it seems to have helped. And actually she's been a great sharer as we've had quite a few kids in and out of the house the last few weeks, and MIl's been really open about sharing all of her toys with them, with a little hesitation when it came to her beloved dress-up clothes. I think sometimes I forget how hard it is for kids to share, and I must commend MIl for being so good about opening up our house, and her toys, to other kids. As parents, we can be so critical of kids sometimes, unjustly, and I need to remember that.
Hmm, I'm sure there is more, but it's either shower now or never.
